Superstition Foothills Baptist Church is nestled in the shadows
of the majestic Superstition Mountains in Gold Canyon. But it
received its birth in a valley. As more people began to move
into the far East Valley in the 1990's, Queen Valley Baptist
Church had a vision to start a church in Gold Canyon. In
February 1994, Superstition Foothills Fellowship began meeting
in the card room of the Gold Canyon R.V. Resort on East Highway
60. Pastor George and Florence Webb were called to lead the work
in March. Through their labor of love and service to the
community, the fledgling congregation soon outgrew the card room
and had to meet in the adjacent ball room of the resort.
(The irony of
Baptist church meeting in a card room and ballroom is not lost
on those familiar with this denomination which historically held
card playing and dancing with suspicion!) |
Within a
year, there were Sunday School classes for all ages and a
Wednesday morning Bible study as well. It
wasn’t long before the congregation began to pray for land to
build a church structure of their own.
God’s providence was evident in the circumstances that opened
the door for the congregation to purchase 6 acres on Kings
Ranch Road. Construction was completed in 1997 with help of
many volunteer builders from Queen Valley Baptist Church, The
North American Mission Board, Arizona Southern Baptist
Convention, the Baptist Foundation of Arizona, Baptist Builders
and Campers on mission.
Future plans for the church include additional education space,
a youth center and 400 seat auditorium. |
